McDonalds Coke
Megan and I really like the Coca-Cola from McDonald's. Until last night, we didn't exactly know why, but it always seems to taste better coming out of McDonald's soft drink fountain.
So last night the cashier gave us the wrong change or something and he called the manager over to fix it. It was later in the evening, so the store was really slow -- it wasn't like we were holding up any line of people or anything. She was friendly about the correction, so Megan asked the question that unlocked our "pop" mystery: "Hey, we really like the Coke at McDonald's. Is there something you guys to do make it so good?" The manager teased us about not being able to disclose it, trade secret and whatnot, but she eventually told us...
They pre-chill the syrup before it gets mixed and dispensed -- so straight from the fountain, with no ice, your soft drink is already quite cold. At other restaurants, room temperature soft drink mixed with a cup of ice is instant-watered-down-Coke. But at MickeyD's, it's perfect. Every time.
Now I want one at the house. =]
Posted by Eric at March 15, 2002 12:14 PMa story.my friend went to the mcdonalds at the mall of georgia and ordered a coke. upon receiving it, he noticed it wasn't completely full, the coke didn't reach the top of the cup. politely, he asked the cashier girl to top off his beverage, to which she responded..."i can't. the machine, it won't let me."
Posted by: grabbingsand at March 15, 2002 03:22 PMThe machine is controlling your coke, sir. It decides how much coke you have. It will also decide whether or not you get an actual medium sized coke, or a small coke in a medium sized cup with one third that amount in foam.
Posted by: Sushi the Great at March 15, 2002 06:01 PMThis STILL does not excuse nor change the fact that all of McDonalds Food would taste better if it was slathered in donky poop. I mean, come on, ALPO puts better ingredients in their DOG food. I have not eaten at a McDonalds since 1993. I will not eat at one again.
Posted by: Clustersnarf at March 18, 2002 10:30 PMthe drink dispensers at fast food places have buttons that they push depending on the drink size.. i.e. small, med, large...
these buttons are "calibrated" to dispense the correct amount of drink without overflowing and wasting drink.
However, the DO have a MANUAL fill button that only fills while being pushed.
there is no excuse for partial filled cups!
