Proxies

Here's a list of open proxies, for all your firewall-busting needs.

Just wanted to remind all you firewall busters out there that this doesn't actually obscure your traffic at all. All this does is get around corporate firewalls with stupid restrictions. They can still see what you're doing and you still get fired for looking at porn.

The reason for this is obvious after thinking about how the proxies work. The site mentions that some of these anonymize your traffic and thats true. The remote host may never know where you connected from. But in order to connect TO the proxy you still need to go through the firewall at work. Thats why they can still see what you're doing.

There are several ways around this too, but the simplest way is to goto a site like www.megaproxy.com (I think I might know the owner of that site, so find another one if you want something unaffiliated).

They make you do something really inconvienent, type the address of your destination in a webpage form and submit. But then it asks you if you're sure you want to go to a secure site and then redirects you to the supersecret page you were visit. Look at those tities!

BUT (downside #2)

Most corporate firewall people already block sites like megaproxy.com. (Megaproxy.com is one of many sites listed in websense's "firewall avoidence" ruleset) so oftentimes you have to stay on top of the latest "firewall busting" webpages if you want to use these types of services.

There are other ways of getting around work firewalls, some of them much safer than the above, but all of them harder to setup.

If you're getting around the work firewall just so you can send AIM messages to your friends, then you should be ok. If you're looking at porn then remember that other people at work don't always need a network sniffer to see what you're doing. You could just as easily be fired from someone looking over you're shoulder.

Hope you enjoyed the corporate ethics message, as well as the firewall crap.

Thanks,
Robert

i have had the same problem when browsing the net at my school for a couple of years, we have came up with an idea that worked realy well, the https:// thing works, but it dosent take long till websense catches it, we only use https://www.megaproxy.com on rare occasions as it is risky, what we do use insted is a "website translation service" , the one which seems to work best is altavistas Balblefish translation service, Just type in the site , click sumthing like spanish to english, the Go!. It will take a couple of secs , mins depending on connection and it may not load up pictures as fast aswell, but it gets the job done ;) . www.c-d-f.co.uk

Ok guys, most of you want free and easy ways to get past school blocks. Now the truth of the matter is that your shit out of luck because you can't get any proxies and thoes site translators are really gay. If you want something then you have to buy it, if you got $10 then you're in luck. I know that megaproxy is usually blocked but I have a way to get to it.

Go to www.rootcompromise.org on the left side it will had a megaproxy address bar, type in anything, this won't work cause it's a broken like but it will get you on to the megaproxy site from there if you already have an account go ahead and login, but if you don't then go home and sign up it's only 10 bucks and then you have unlimited surfing anywhere anytime. Never have to worry about websence or anything.

www.anysite.tk still works at my school, but it has ads and you can't really download mp3's.

I'm trying to get Navras back from my web site, but it won't let me. *sniff*

websense has got to be castrated. come on all you software whizzkids, make this your number 1 project.

Posted by: drofgum at October 4, 2004 04:10 PM

you can use command prompt to get around some things....type ping then whatever you want to get to, example C:\ping www.albinoblacksheep.com it will give you the IP address of the website, type the ip address into your URL bar, and hit enter or go. it works most of the time, there have been a few occasions where it doesnt work.

Posted by: Joe at October 6, 2004 08:22 AM

I can not open the site

Posted by: majid at October 6, 2004 04:08 PM

ping it from the c prompt? hmm...i shall test that out on the school comps.

That will only work if the IT guys are crap.
Websense has both URL and IP filtering, that will only work if the IP filtering is off, sadly at my college its turned on

www.the-cloak.com seems to be the best site, always works...
