An Island To Oneself

I very much recommend that you take some time and read An Island To Oneself, by Tom Neale.

Neale lived alone on a tiny Pacific island during the 1950s and 60s, by his own choice.

A couple years ago, I tried to buy a new internet domain -- from the Cook Islands! Their top-level domain is '.ck,' so I thought it would be supremely cool and geeky to register eri.ck. Then, my email address would be rod@eri.ck, and web address rod.eri.ck! Hey, if djb can have cr.yp.to, then why not?

Unfortunately, their policies prevent registration of second-level domains like eri.ck; they only sell third level domains to commercial entities with the suffix 'co.ck.' No kidding.

If you've ever been to the Cook Islands, you'll know why the domains are like that.
