For a few months Robert and I have debated deleting these two obscure and indefineable albums.
“What the hell is this bleepy crap?” I exclaim, and move on to something else.
A few weeks pass, and Robert might attempt to listen, before giving up in disgust.
“It sounds like medical equipment malfunctioning.”
“More like ‘Revenge of the EMS Tone’.”
Yesterday, Robert finally decided to do some investigation to find out exactly what Ryoji Ikeda’s ::Matrix: Music for Rooms was really about.
“Wow!” He played one of the tracks, and moved around the room. “Dude! Move around!” I did, and noticed the change in tone.
Ikeda’s ::Matrix is an extremely minimalistic work of sonic sculpture, designed to be played in a large room, and most importantly, listened to while moving. The effect is truly … interesting, and more than a little unnerving.
This weekend I bought an Apple Macintosh Server G4/500 from Rod. It is much love.
The machine came with a 500 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processor with the AltiVec “Velocity Engine” vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache, 340 MB of RAM, three 18.0 Ultra2 LVD SCSI hard drives, an ATI Rage 128 Pro, and a SCSI DVD-Rom drive. I added another 256 MB of Ram, and will eventually fill the system to capacity with 1.5GB of RAM. As soon as I figure out how to remove the front bezel, I’m going to replace the DVD drive with my 16x Yamaha burner.

Now I can get my morning caffeine hit via my soap. I love living in the future.
Today came with a discovery of a great Indian restaurant: Daabha Indian Cafe, located at 2772 Cumberland Blvd. The cafe is in the small shopping plaza on the left past the intersection of Spring Road and Cumberland, just past McDonald’s.
Today I had “diced chicken with red peppers”, and when they say “red peppers”, they really mean it. The food itself was excellent, and the buttered naan bread was absolutely wonderful. Overall, the little restaurant was very clean and tidy, and the service was very quick. A meal will costs more than fast food, at around $10 a plate, but the large portions and wonderful flavorings are well worth the price. If you’re in North Atlanta and looking for Indian cuisine, I highly recommend you stop by.

With Google sets, you enter a few related items, and Google will attempt to find more items in that set. For example, I listed several industrial bands: VNV Nation, Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Laibach, and Coil, and Google returned this expanded set.
Another nice Google feature eliminates the need to wait on sites with slow or nonexistent search functions. In Google’s search box, append site:sitename to your query, and Google will only return results from that site. For example, if you enter your query as “site:www.orbyn.com hair fudge” (note no http://), you’ll get an interesting result from Robyn’s page, as well as giving her lots of interesting search referrals.
