The Pit of the Peach

It really isn’t Mapquest’s fault that their maps are wrong. Last night, looking up directions to a business, I discovered that Interstate North Parkway SE splits, but retains the same name. No kidding. Looking at the map, you’d think that Interstate North Parkway SE would become Leland Dr SE. However, this is Atlanta. Interstate North Parkway SE goes straight, and it also veers off to the northeast.

In a few months the city will probably rename both roads to “Interpeachtreestate Parkway North South Peach Circle Lane Way NE/SW”. Because Atlanta really needs more roads named Peach-something.

“Better rename some more roads! These people MIGHT forget that Georgia’s famed for its beaches.”

“Right, I’ll get on that.”

Later…

“Wait! PEACHES!! Not beaches!!”

“Sorry sir, but now we have 640 signs with a beach that looks like someone’s ass.”

“Oh, well, I suppose it’s better than a peach that looks like someone’s .. hey.. wait a minute..”

New Powermacs

I’m drooling over the new G5 Powermacs. $2999 for a dual 2Ghz 64-bit platform isn’t that outrageous, either, considering that Sun’s dual 1.2Ghz 64-bit system starts at around $13,995.

New Server

Moved to a new server. Lots of things broken. Hooray for technology!

Kevin’s Velociraptor

A few weeks ago, Kevin bought a wooden dinosaur model for 99 cents. When he got it home, he found that someone had already removed all of the little wooden bones, and donated the remains to charity. How nice.

Not one to be set back by adversity, Kevin took the wooden templates, scanned them, enlarged them by about 300%, and traced them onto large pieces of foam board.

Kevin now has a four-foot long Velociraptor model in his living room.

Army goes OSX

According to this Netcraft article, the Army has moved their www.army.mil server to Mac OSX, the first OS transition for that server since 1999.

The article also points out that Apple has switched its Knowledge Base servers to Solaris. Other anecdotal evidence shows that Apple is performing load-balancing between Solaris and OSX servers, possible for internal investigation.

Abel

Maybe Abel deserved it.

Maybe Abel was one of those people who just beg to be destroyed, crushed, smote with a rock and sacrificed.

Abel was driving the SUV who cut you off and made you miss your exit. He was talking on his cell-phone and reading a newspaper at the same time.

Abel works for the DMV. He also works for the Department of Labor, and answers calls with a smashed-together “Departmentoflaborholdplease-CLICK”.

Abel works for Kroger.

Abel parks his riced-out Sentra, the lime green one with the BMW emblems and the MOPAR stickers, across the three parking places closest to the entrance.

He mumbles the lines to the movie, and he kicks your seat while he’s chomping popcorn.

Abel spews out a hundred thousand Penis Enlargement emails an hour.

Maybe Cain was justified. If not justified, at least understandable.

Intermatic

My pool pump is powered by an ancient, rusting Intermatic mechanical 24-hour time switch. The entire case is rusted, and the On/Off switch is conveniently located right above the two screws that terminate the live electrical wiring, which makes for great fun when attempting to turn off the pool pump with wet hands.
