Section Z

Ooh, here’s a really nice Section Z site.

I kinda miss that game, but I just can’t bear to play it now.

LinkedIn Sucks

For all you kids who’re trying to add me to your LinkedIn accounts: piss off.

It’s really, really stupid to pay someone to “network” you with people you already know.

Here’s a crushing blow to LinkedIn’s @1998 business model: send some email. Yeah, that’s right, send email to your old colleagues.

Novel concept.

Now quit spamming me, monkeys.

Flock

I’ve been using Flock for a few days, and I’m really impressed. I’ve not been a big user of del.icio.us, but I really like the Flock integration. I think my favorite feature so far is the indexed browsing history, which is a real time-saver when doing research.

I’m posting this using the Flock Blogging toolbar, and it’s very elegant, and works very well with WordPress.

Flock has integrated RSS feeds, but since I use Bloglines exclusively, I don’t see much of a point in having my feeds tied to a single browser — especially since I browse from any of five different computers at any given time.

VMWare Player

VMware Player  is free software that enables PC users to easily run any virtual machine on a Windows or Linux PC. VMware Player runs virtual machines created by VMware Workstation, GSX Server or ESX Server and also supports Microsoft virtual machines and Symantec LiveState Recovery disk formats.

I need to remember to download this.

Remixamania

For some terrible reason, I actually like the folk remix of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”.

I’ve also been diggin’ Party Ben‘s remixes. In particular, his smashup of Green Day vs. Oasis vs. Travis vs. Aerosmith vs. Eminem, “Boulevard of Broken Songs” is so good, if I hear any of the pre-smashed songs, I think there’s something wrong with them.

List of USB device apps

I’ve been in a training class all week, and have found using a USB thumb drive to be an excellent way to carry around a few small apps — Portable Firefox and Putty — for use on a machine that I don’t control and that I might not use the next day.

Here‘s a list of more small USB-drive-friendly apps.

Phantom

Last Thursday, Heather and I went to the Fox Theatre to see “The Phantom of the Opera”. I’d never been to the Fox, and was very impressed. The theater is gorgeously designed with a Arabian theme, and inside the theater itself, the seating and stage is under a sky-blue ceiling that gives the impression of being in a Arabian mosque near sunset — complete with twinkling stars.

“Phantom” was also quite good; I’m not a big fan of musicals, but the show was very engaging, and the stagecraft was excellent. I highly recommend seeing it; it’s definitely an experience worth having.
