RSS Reader for Mac – NetNewsWire

Yays! NetNewsWire is now a free download!

I used NNW for ages, a few years ago, but switched to Google Reader after NNW started asking me for my moneys. I find that NNW’s keyboard shortcuts are a lot faster than Google Reader’s, and the general experience is better. Another nice new feature is that news subscriptions sync between multiple copies of NetNewsWire via Newsgator.

CustomizeGoogle

CustomizeGoogle is one of my favorite Firefox (and Flock plugins. It allows very simple wildcard filtering of Google search results — perfect for removing all the bogus search results from those scumbags at ExpertSexchange.com, Tech Republic, and so on.

DarwiinRemote

Yay! Someone wrote an app that connects a WiiMote to a Mac!

“Despite assurances from the card companies, researchers Tom Heydt-Benjamin and Kevin Fu were able to easily retrieve data from the new cards … data available without encryption and in plain text. From the article: “They could skim and store the information from a card with a device the size of a couple of paperback books, which they cobbled together from readily available computer and radio components for $150. They say they could probably make another one even smaller and cheaper: about the size of a pack of gum for less than $50. And because the cards can be read even through a wallet or an item of clothing, the security of the information, the researchers say, is startlingly weak.

Fixing FireFox’s Stupid.

Ever tried to send a file attachment via Gmail using FireFox, and gotten the really annoying “unresponsive script” popup every five seconds?

You can fix that by going to ‘about:config’ and modifying dom.max_script_run_time to something reasonable, like 60000 seconds.

Phlink

I’m really interested in setting up Phlink at my house.

(And for all you Asterisk junkies, shush. I’ve seen the nightmare that is setting up Asterisk. No thanks.)
