Video Card Hell

For the last few days, I’ve been trapped in Video Card Hell.

I decided on Friday that I really needed a better video card, so I bought an ASUS AGP-V7700 GeForce2 GTS Deluxe. When I installed it, I immediately started having problems: the BIOS display was filled with weird blinking white dots, and Win2k would crash before it got past the loading screen. After lots of testing, I found that the card would do this regardless of which computer I put it in, so the only thing I could think of was a corrupted BIOS on the card itself.

5 by 5

Remember that old game that we used to play, called Starcraft? Remember that unit that said, in a woman’s voice, “Five by five”? I do, and I always wanted to know: five by five whats? Well, I’ve found out, and you can too.

Tornado

My quest for more information goes running off in the weeds again, and tonight I’ve gotten an itch for more information about tornados.

I’ve lived in Alabama all my life, so tornados are something that I’ve come to accept. For some reason, a random trivium bubbled up into consciousness tonight that North America experiences something like 80% of the world’s tornados. For you Alabama readers, think about that: there are people who’ve never had to duck and cover in school, who’ve never sat in basements wondering if their houses are ok, who’ve never had to wait through obnoxious tornado drills. Of course, I suppose the same could be said about Alabamians and not worrying about air raids.

Lunchbots!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the cafeteria… Lunchbots attack!

Luvseat

Yet another device that fills me with fear: the LuvSeat. The fact that this thing exists is terrifying enough, but digging deeper into the site, you’ll find that it supports “up to 500 pounds.” Is that for one person, or two? One 100lb person, and a 400lb person? It also has accessories, such as “securely-attached steel hooks or eyes for attaching restraints.” Oh, and for you naughty weasels browsing from work, be careful scrolling down; the animated gifs are classics.

Readability

Occasionally some friends of mine will complain about my choice in colors on this site, or the lack of graphics, or the overabundance of text. First, this survey states “the most readable color combination is black text on white background and overall, there is a stronger preference for any combination containing black.” The key for me is readability. This site is about storing information. Almost all of that information comes in the form of text. The common way of retrieving that information is by reading that text. Thus, I make the text black, on a white background, to make it easier to retrieve.

Castlevania MP3s

Ooh: Kevin found some nice MP3s apparently leaked from Castlevania: Resurrection, which was made for the Dreamcast but never released.
