Here‘s a nice primer on T1 technology.

Sony’s DRM Rootkit Used for WoW Hacking

By now all three of you who read this site are familiar with the tale of how Sony released a music cd (by Van Zant, some crap country band) that includes a DRM rootkit.

What you don’t know is that certain enterprising World of Warcraft hackers have used this nice, working Ring0 rootkit to hide their nasty WoW cheating programs from Blizzard’s “Warden” cheat detection processes.

Flock

I’ve been using Flock for a few days, and I’m really impressed. I’ve not been a big user of del.icio.us, but I really like the Flock integration. I think my favorite feature so far is the indexed browsing history, which is a real time-saver when doing research.

I’m posting this using the Flock Blogging toolbar, and it’s very elegant, and works very well with WordPress.

Flock has integrated RSS feeds, but since I use Bloglines exclusively, I don’t see much of a point in having my feeds tied to a single browser — especially since I browse from any of five different computers at any given time.

VMWare Player

VMware Player  is free software that enables PC users to easily run any virtual machine on a Windows or Linux PC. VMware Player runs virtual machines created by VMware Workstation, GSX Server or ESX Server and also supports Microsoft virtual machines and Symantec LiveState Recovery disk formats.

I need to remember to download this.

Remixamania

For some terrible reason, I actually like the folk remix of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”.

I’ve also been diggin’ Party Ben‘s remixes. In particular, his smashup of Green Day vs. Oasis vs. Travis vs. Aerosmith vs. Eminem, “Boulevard of Broken Songs” is so good, if I hear any of the pre-smashed songs, I think there’s something wrong with them.

Mologogo

For those of you who have Nextel phones, Mologogo lets you track and map your cellphone via Google Maps.

List of USB device apps

I’ve been in a training class all week, and have found using a USB thumb drive to be an excellent way to carry around a few small apps — Portable Firefox and Putty — for use on a machine that I don’t control and that I might not use the next day.

Here‘s a list of more small USB-drive-friendly apps.

Jed’s Other Poem

Jed’s Other Poem (Beautiful Ground) is an unsolicited video for the song of the same name by the band Grandaddy. It is programmed in Applesoft II on a 1979 Apple ][+ with 48k RAM.
